Odds and Sods (again)

Here's some musical news, links and tidbits to keep you going.

  • Rumour has it that the second Joanna Newsom album will feature arrangements from Van Dyke Parks and production from Jim O'Rourke. Let it be true.
  • Exclusive free music from Spinto Band over at their official site.
  • Patrick Wolf finished his new third album, The Magic Position, last night. It'll be out soon. I pray it'll be good, as reports from his last few shows from older fans have been less than kind.
  • The fantastic Indie MP3 - Keeping C86 Alive has got a great compilation of new bands going under the name of C06. You can download the whole thing plus some nice artwork right here.
  • Gorilla Vs. Bear say that Sam Champion and Black Fiction could be the next kings of the blogosphere, and who are we to argue? eh?
  • The first live Thom Yorke solo performance was on the Henry Rollins show (which is probably the greatest idea for a chat show ever). Check it out here.
  • You can also find out what's been happening to old NME hack/genius(?) Swells these days, in a report on the American health system. Makes the superbug seem quite friendly.
  • Youtube bonus No. 1: Idlewild. When they argue(d?), they see(saw?) shapes. One of my favourite singles ever.
  • Youtube bonus No. 2: Mansun. Being A Girl. Top Of The Pops.
  • Youtube bonus No. 3: Finally, here is the greatest, most disturbing, and also funniest thing that's ever been on youtube. You've been warned.

If I'd gotten round to doing my Contrast Podcast submission in time, When I Argue I See Shapes was definitely a contender. Good times...
