New Artist Alert: Jamie Sample

Here's a guy who's been receiving a lot of attention recently. Maybe half of it is due to his slightly insane blog posts, maybe some of its to do with his unconventional promo pictures, but I thought I should put some of his songs up so you could hear for yourselves what he actually SOUUUUNDS like. Cos that's why we're here, isn't it? Isn't it? Is it? It is! Yes!

An acoustic singer/songwriting hailing from the Middlesborough/Teesside area, he's been touring around that are for quite a while now, converting legions of concert-goers into self confessed Samplers, or Sample-Maniacs. Rumours of a London date/somewhere else down in the Southern lands of the western realm of Britland are flowing like fresh Kopparberg. If you want more info, check out his myspace. It's myspacey. Enjoy.

I am not worthy to give even an opinion on this great mans work but feel I have to express myself this day. They say that on the seventh day god rested but this is not true, I say he was busier than ever carving Jamie out of the finest clay and reserved a whole day just for his creation.

We should all rejoice and be amazed that while on 'new deal' Jamie spared the time to create the musical works here present thus sharing a part of himself with us mere mortals.

I also have it on good authority that Sample is currently building a time machine and intends to travel back in time and chastise Hitler and steer the Nazi party from violence and destruction with the very songs on his myspace. If I was a woman I would be knocking on his dressing room door right now.

Lennon & McCartney, Jagger & Richards, Led Zeppelin, Madonna, Elvis Presley - now another name looks set to join that uber-class of musical talent, that premiership of musical ability and song-writing genius - ladies and gentlemen - it is my great pleasure to nominate Jamie Sample to that upper echelon of musical globe-straddling world domination.

I listened to the songs on his myspace with scarcely held dis-belief - how a mere mortal can make music of this calibre whilst still resident on earth just astonishes me. This was the sound of angels singing - the sound of a new-born child crying-out, the sound of ecstacy - it's impossible to describe the raptures this music inspired in me.

His songs will have you questioning your very existence - when someone as talented as the Sampler blisters through your life with his musical imprint seared permanently on your retina - how can your life ever be the same again?

In fact the sheer genius of his music makes me question every bit of philosophy that I've ever heard or read - this music is philosophy - this music speaks to me like no other - this music sends me to places I never even dreamed existed.

Choose life - choose Sample - your life won't be the same again.

Jean Baudrillard once said that there is nothing original left in the the world, that everything has become a copy of a copy of an original destroying any credibility in the original, Jamie Sample takes this statement and with the use of the most primitive of human expressions, a 6 string and the strength of his soul tears it into tiny pieces.

Hang up your beret jean.

I suppose my life was going down hill fast - middle age had got hold of me and thought my surf board days were behind me - how wrong can you be - this hits the spot.
It got me scouring auto trader for another VW camper van and check out the surf board stores.
I can't explain the feeling you get when hearing his angelic voice - nothing can compare - one minite a choir voice the next heavy rock - it is all to much for us mere mortals.
So get a copy and get surfing now.

I will be forever indebted to jamie sample, he saved my Hawaiian shirt business from certain disaster after he was snapped in one of my fine garments.

Since then business has gone from strength to strength, with talk of Essence of Jamie being available intime for the summer solstice

If you want to know what it was like to be young, permed and and from Teesside fifteen years ago, Sample is the man for you. His songs galvanized the Middlesbrough soft rock acoustic scene during the early ninties like a bolt of leather-clad lightning. The opening bars of 'Come Along' never fail to transport me back to those hot, shirtless nights I spent dancing with Tommo and Crazy Mark on the tables of The Empire. As they say on the Spitzenplatzen, "If das Samplen nicht gegruben ist, das ist nicht Samplebladt".

As associate dean in Poplular Music at the University of Teesside, I am happy to report that from today, all students will get the pleasure of studying this epic work. No longer will the like of 'The Beatles'and the so called 'Rolling Stones' waste our precious, precious time. Jamie Samples music has been hidden away too long. It's time to bring it back to the people.
It's only a matter of time now till my dream is fulfilled. The next big thing in the crazy world of Higher education: A degree in Sample.

Sample BA(Hons).
