MP3: Sounds Blasts EP3 - Cerebral Fix, Killdozer, Pussy Galore

Second part of the Sounds Blasts EP3 (see below for part one!), and this time it's a rockin' triple bill with songs from Cerebral Fix, Killdozer and Pussy Galore. Again, all tracks are recorded direct from old and dirty vinyl, so don't expect top quality, which you shouldn't want anyway, you fools!

First up are Cerebral Fix, a thrash/death metal band from Birmingham who formed in 1986. The band was made up of vocalist Simon Forrest, bassist Frank Healy, rhythm guitarist Gregg Fellows, lead guitarist Tony Walburton and drummer Kev Frost. For a while their drummer was Andy Baker, a metal mainstay who would play also with Sacrilege, Varukers and the legendary Cathedral. Cerebral Fix recorded their first demo, We Need Therapy the following year, but it wasn't until 1988 that their debut, Life Sucks... And Then You Die was released. In the next year they recorded demos for the followup, which would be named Tower Of Spite, and would be their most celebrated album. Bastards followed in 1991, and their final album would be 1992's Death Erotica. And if that's not a metal title than I don't know what is. Motherfuckers. Want a tiny bit more info? Killdozer were a sludgey American midwest three piece formed in 1984 by three teenagers- Michael Gerard (guitar/vocals), Bill Hobson (guitar) and Dan Hobson (drums). Their debut album, Intellectuals are the Shoeshine Boys of the Ruling Elite, was released that year on Bone Air Records. They preceded to tour for the next year until they were signed up by Touch & Go before releasing the followup, 1985's Snake Boy. An EP, Burl, came out in 1986, but it would not be until 1988 that their most acclaimed (and probably best) album, Little Baby Buntin' was released. Another studio album, 1989's Twelve Point Buck, plus a cover records, For Ladies Only, came out before the band decided to split in order to work 9-5's. After three years they reformed, minus guitarist Bill Hobson (replaced by Paul Zagoras), and in 1994 released a hilarious faux communist album titled Uncompromising War on Art Under the Dictatorship of the Proletariat. Lovely. One more album followed, 1994's God Hears The Pleas Of The Innocent, but in 1996 the band again split, this time for good. A live recording of their last show, The Last Waltz, came out on Man's Ruin the following year. More info at Southern Records, reviews at Prindle, and other stuff at this fansite.

Finally we have something from Pussy Galore, the band most famous for being led by a pre-Blues Explosion Jon Spencer. They formed in Washington D.C. in 1985, and had a constantly changing lineup until their final implosion in 1990. Notable members include guitarist Neil Hagerty (also of Royal Trux) and former Sonic Youth drummer Bob Bert. Early recordings were released on their own Shove records, and included a 7" EP in 1985 (Feel Good About Your Body), plus a complete covers album of Exile On Main Street and two more EP's (Groovy Hate Fuck and Pussy Gold 5000) in 1986. In 1987 the band were signed to Caroline Records, and their debut, Right Now! came out that year. Other albums included 1989's Dial M For Motherfucker, and 1990's Historia De La Musica, which would be their final release. A compilation entitled Corpse Love: The First Year was also released in 1992, and a recording of their final show (Live: In The Red) came out on the In The Red label in 1998. Spencer of course went on to form Boss Hog and the legendary Jon Spencer's Blues Explosion, and the rest is history. More info at the ever-reliable Wikipedia.
