MP3: The Fall are The Beatles? Is this the best cover of all time?
Wow. This is amazing. I don't know how i'd never heard of this before, because it's surely the greatest idea on the face of the planet. What would The Fall sound like covering one of the Beatles best ever songs, a piece of legendary pop culture that is almost perfect despite the inclusion of an almost awful section by Macca? Fucking amazing is the answer. It was recorded as part of a charity album called Sgt. Pepper Knew My Father, released by the NME, which featured a selection of bands picking a song to cover from Sgt Peppers. It also includes a rather funky cover of Getting Better by The Wedding Present (which I would have put up but i'm misplaced my copy of George Best that has it as a bonus track), and rather bizarrely, Wet Wet Wet (you can see how the NME's collaborations with quality musical acts have always been as strong as they are today, *cough*). So anyway, yes, The Fall, the bloody Fall, cover A Day In The Life. It's amazing. Its gone straight into my top 5 favourite cover versions of all time, and I might even like it more than the original. John Lennon and Mark E. Smith. What a great collaboration that would have been. There's some more info on this covers album at Wikipedia, but for now, I hope you like this cover as much as I do. Enjoy.

Hi Jamie,
Tomorrow you will realise exactly what co-incidence means ... just to make it clear .. I've had the theme for the next CP picked out for quite a few weeks and then you post this the day before ...
amazing!

how odd. i even thought when i was putting this up how it might be interesting if you did a beatles contrast. something funny going on methinks. maybe the hot weather has turned us into long distance psychics.
