Peel Session: Will Oldham (2002)
Will Oldham. Bonnie Prince Billy. Palace. Palace Brothers. Many names, many lengths of beard, but always amazing. As I said on here, his recent Superwolf record with Matt Sweeney was one of my highlights of 2005, and although i've for some reason not listened to it enough, last year's The Letting Go was probably just as good. Will is set to play a small UK tour next week, culminating with a gig in London next saturday, but until then I thought i'd provide you with a rather nifty Peel session.
Over the years, and under a number of names, Will performed a total of seven performances for the Peel show. This was session number seven. It was recorded on the 24th April 2002, with David Heumann on piano, baritone guitar and backing vocals. It was broadcast on the 8th August of that same year.
Jolly Five is an early version the song 64 that would form part of the Get On Jolly EP released under the name Bonnie Billy and the Marquis De Tren in 2002. Arise Therefore is from the album of the same name from 1996. Death To Everyone featured on 1999's incomparable I See A Darkness. Finally (I Was Drunk At The) Pulpit featured on the Palace Brothers record There Is No One What Will Take Care of You from 2001. Enjoy.
