Stardeath And White Dwarfs - Toast & Marmalade For Tea

You always have to be careful when considering new bands who've probably come to fame/being signed in some part down to the fact that they have a famous relative. For every...um...i'm struggling here...for every good band formed by a relative of someone in a good band, there's a Julian Lennon or a...whatever John Bonham's son is called. He's in Foreigner you know? Anyway, Stardeath And White Dwarfs, despite the horrific lack of the word 'Dwarves' from their name, are pretty interesting sounding. Vocalist and guitarist Dennis Coyne is the nephew of The Flaming Lips' Wayne Coyne, and his band are set to release the single below on Half Machine in March. The first track here, with its Beatlesy melodies and string samples actually reminds me a little of Eels, or Grandaddy, or even Sparklehorse: a slow, summery alt-pop strum. The second track is a little more out there, a sort of building looped psych jam. So, both worth a listen, and neither of them too obviously Flaming Lipsy. See what you think. More info available at their myspace.

I think Jeff Buckley might be the example you're looking for, no?
