Video: Manic Street Preachers - Suicide Is Painless: Theme From MASH (live on Top Of The Pops)

At one point the Manic Street Preachers were probably the most important thing to me in the world. The first rock band I got into, they introduced me to so much film, literature and music that if I hadn't got into them i'd probably be a completely different person. I'm not sure if anyone who hasn't been an obsessive Manics fan or known one can really imagine a fan base quite so obsessive anywhere in the world. Luckily I never became an annoying King Adora listening to glitter boy, or fall into some of the other holes that some Manics fans do, and although I appreciate now how over-earnest and maybe a little bad some of their music and videos were, I've still got a lot of love and nostalgia for them. Anyway the band released this song, a cover of the theme from MASH, as a charity single in 1992 between their debut, that year's Generation Terrorists, and it's followup, 1993's underrated Gold Against The Soul. It's a pretty cool cover, and became their first UK top ten hit. This is a pretty cool performance, and if you like it you should try to hear their 1994 classic The Holy Bible, because it's one of the most legendary British albums of the last 20 years, and is criminally unknown amongst most non-Brits. Hope you like it, it's not great quality video but it's a cool performance and the band look pretty amazing. More info on this single at Wikipedia.
