Peel Session: Calexico (1999)

Hello! Sorry for the few days break, i've been away in lovely Saaaarf London for the weekend. Anyway here's a few songs to brighten your day (and if they don't work, a spin of Ys surely will, poppickers).

But hey! Let's give someone other than Joanna a chance to soundtrack a cold Sunday's afternoon, at least for 20 minutes or so. Calexico formed in Tucson, Arizona in 1996, and bled an innovative form of alt. country with elements of indie rock, mariachi, jazz, surf and just about every other genre you could think of. To date they've released five official studio albums, a ton of tour-only EPs, and loads of other bits and bobs, all of which are highly recommended.

This session was recorded on the 27th April 1999, and was the second of four sessions that Calexico recorded for Peel from 1997 to 2003. Stray, Frontera and Trigger are taken from 1998's The Black Light. Jesus & Tequila is a Minutemen cover (taken from the classic Double Nickles On The Dime record), and Glowing Heart Of The World is taken from 1999's tour-only Road Map EP. Enjoy.

Calexico - 01 Glowing Heart Of The World (Peel session)
Calexico - 02 Stray (Peel session)
Calexico - 03 Frontera/Trigger (Peel session) (link fixed)

Many thanks for the post. Problems downloading track 3 though. Is the "/" between "Frontera" and "Trigger" in your link the cause ?

Cheers.
