Fugazi - 'In On The Killer' - Albini demos

Due to popular demand, here are some more Fugazi rarities for your consumption. As faras I know, every song ever released by Fugazi was recorded in one place; the legendary Inner Studios in DC. However in 1993, the band decided to see how things would sound if they mixed things up slightly and drafted in a different producer. Thus they spent a few days with Steve Albini in his own Electrical Audio studios in Chicago, Illinois, where they tested some of the songs that would later form the bulk of that year's stunning In On The Killtaker.

Unfortunately however none of these sessions would form part of that album. The band later stated that they were unsatisfied with their own performances, and Albini (rather humbly for him) said that he thought the official album was better in almost every way. Luckily for us some of the songs, or maybe all of them (i'm not sure!), leaked online some time last year. And here they are. For you. You lucky people.

Personally I don't think they're AMAZING, and they're clearly inferior to the finished products, but its still very nice to hear such an amazing band work with someone as idiosyncratic as Albini.

Fugazi - 01 Public Witness Program (Albini demo)
Fugazi - 02 Returning The Screw (Albini demo)
Fugazi - 03 Smallpox Champion (Albini demo)
Fugazi - 04 23 Beats Off (Albini demo)
Fugazi - 05 Cassavettes (Albini demo)
Fugazi - 06 Great Cop (Albini demo)
Fugazi - 07 Walken's Syndrome (Albini demo)

The Northern VA studio you mention was called Inner Ear Studios originally in Don Zientara's basement... where all original early Dischord stuff was recorded ( Minor Threat etc), but location switched to another location when Don got studio out of his house in later part of 80s...

I believe Fugazi also recorded material in Europe with the late John Loder ( Southern Studios)

and hey, I'm sure somebody has the dates & all that... but I ain't really a stickler... just also wanted to say thanx for tracks ...

"Margin Walker" was recorded in Britain with Loder. The band was also unhappy with that session. It was planned as an album, but only an EP was released.

Thx a lot for posting those songs! They indeed serve a purpose... I wish they released an album full of demos and outtakes of songs from their early days.
The Instrument Soundtrack is great but very lo-key.
