Rock Action: The Auteurs - Live Black Sessions (1996)

The Auteurs were quite simply one of the most perfect pop bands of the 1990s. Sparklingly vicious and witty autopsy's of British life coated in some of the most wonderfully composed indie pop tunes ever written. One perfect album (1993's New Wave, three brilliant ones, and then GONE without most people caring. Most people are morons. Luke Haines of course continues to write and release music under his own name and with Black Box Recorder, but for me he's never truly scaled the heights of those Auteurs records. Thus today I thought i'd provide you with a bumper crop of Auteurs live session action. These songs are taken from the legendary Black Sessions as broadcast on the Paris radio station La Maison De La Radio, and were recorded in 1996. We get songs from the firist three Auteurs albums plus a few welcome rarities, and the band are in top form. Enjoy the fuck out of them.

You rule so hard. That show is killer, almost better than the recorded versions. Cheers Jamie.

A band I miss... I was introduced to them by comic book writer Grant Morrison back in 1994. At a sparsely attended signing, we talked about music, since he used the Dylans lyrics in his comics, he told me about the Auteurs and guaranteed I love them, and 13 years later still do.
