Peel Session: Gorky's Zygotic Mynci (2003)

Hoorah. Gorky's. One of the best Welsh bands EVA. EVER. YOU HEAR? EVER. And you haven't even HEARD THEM! Or you might have. Who knows? Oooh i'm in a funny mood tonight. Whatever the case may be, you SHOULD have heard them. Sadly of course they've now joined the great long list of great bands who are no more, but for 15 years they were one of the most reliable, fun and interesting bands in the UK. They made 9 appearances on the Peel Show, including seven proper sessions. This was the last of them, recorded in August 2003. Enjoy (except for Tom_from_Sparks).

Gorky's Zygotic Mynci - 01 Monica
Gorky's Zygotic Mynci - 02 Old Fanny Mahoney
Gorky's Zygotic Mynci - 03 Eyes Of Green Green Green
Gorky's Zygotic Mynci - 04 The Film That Changed My Wife

Surely you jest? GZM were the biggest load of old fanny I've ever had the misfortune to suffer in concert (supported the Manics on one tour). I don't wish any misfortune on them, though I should do after the suffering they put me through. I'm glad they've gone back to being brickies.

GZM were quality. The Manics however are another story - pretentious, bad poetry spouting clowns...

I guess the manics took GZM out on tour to try and increase the profile of a hugely-underated band.

It's a pity when support bands just aren't given a chance on arena/stadium tours by fans of the main attraction. There's too many like Steve out there......
