Jamie Loves: Neil Young - Massey Hall 1971

Oh lordy. In the post today I got the latest release in the Neil Young Performance Series, one of a group of forthcoming live recordings that are a sort of side project to the main Neil Young Archives, which will be released in a number of box sets, the first set to appear later this year. In the last week a rather amazing trailer for the first box was put up on the official Archive site, finally confirming that it would be made up 8 CDs, 2 DVDs and a 150 page book, covering 1963-1972. I literally cannot contain my excitement about this. It will be AMAZING.

Another thing that's amazing is this Performance CD. The second in the series, it was recorded at Massey Hall, Toronto in 1971, between the release of After The Gold-Rush and Harvest. Its a Neil solo performance on acoustic and piano, with songs from both of those records, as well as a few things here and there from Buffalo Springfield, CSNY, and some Neil songs that wouldn't appear until the release of Time Fades Away, On The Beach and Decade. It's beautifully recorded, the performances are stunning and there's a version available with almost the entire show on an extra dvd. Check out the two songs below. This release is unmissable.

Neil Young - Love in Mind (live)
Neil Young - Ohio (live)
