Film Soundtrack: Dead Man Walking

Film soundtracks, by which I mean compilations of songs on the soundtrack, or the horrifically phrased 'Songs Inspired By...', rather than an actual score, are often rather bloody awful. Or at least really inconsistent. When they are genuinely good, its either because the films themes lend it to song really well and the right artists are picked, or because someone involved in the film has really good taste in music. The Dead Man Walking soundtrack from 1995 falls into the former category, featuring some really nice stuff from Springsteen, Johnny Cash, Suzanne Vega, Tom Waits, Patti Smith and a bunch of other nice and dark American artistes.

Below are a few highlights. Two tracks are collaborations between Eddie Vedder and the rather legendary Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, plus there's a song each from Tom Waits and Mary Chapin Carpenter. It's aaaaall really good.

Mary Chapin Carpenter - Dead Man Walking
Tom Waits - Walk Away
Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan & Eddie Vedder - The Face Of Love
Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan & Eddie Vedder - The Long Road
