Peel Session: Dead Meadow (2001)

Dead Meadow are a psychedelic rock band from Washington DC who formed in 1998. Made up of the remnants of two other DC bands, Impossible Five and Colour, the three piece mix a seventies rock sound with lyrics referring to Tolkien, Lovecraft and to other horror/fantasy themes. Their first LP came out on Joe Lally's Tolotta Records label (Joe is the bassist from Fugazi, for those not in the know), and yet curiously the band haven't ever released anything for Dischord, chosing instead to skip to Matador in 2002 to gain some more exposure. They've currently released 5 LPs and another is due out later this year. Curiously, this (their only Peel session) was the first ever Peel session to be recorded outside of the BBC; it was instead recorded at a studio ran by members of Fugazi. Intereeesting. It was recorded in January 2001 and I hope ye like it!
