MP3: Manic Street Preachers Discography - Sleeping With The N.M.E.

Bit of a bonus post here, I was going to post this track earlier on in the series but couldn't find my copy. Luckily someone sent it to me over email (I would thank him by name but my email program went a bit odd and I lost his mails), and so I can put it up for you now. Basically on the bside of the Suicide Is Painless single the Manics put out a recording made in the NME office the morning after the notorious incident in which Richey carved the words 4 Real into his arm in front of Steve Lamacq after he questioned their sincerity post-gig. It's very odd to hear, and even odder that the band would put it out on a single, but it's also well worth a listen for an idea as to how the press reacts to stories like this, asking whether they should print the photographs. It does make one question why they (we assume someone in the NME office) decided to record it (did the band ask them? was it just so shocking that they had to?), and its a document of a pretty important incident in the bands history.

Next week i'll be covering the bands second post-Richey album, 1998's This Is My Truth, Tell Me Yours. Until then have a good weekend!

Excellent! Been hoping someone would blog post this for a while. Plenty of future media decent sized names in there.

The clip comes from a Radio 5 (pre-Live and thus better) documentary by Mark Thomas about the NME's history for which he was allowed to record office events for a week, which coincided with 4 Real.
