MP3: Buffalo Tom - Birdbrain

Okay well today i've got something from a band that i've only just got into in a big way. I've always been a huge fan of grunge and other sorts of 80s alt rock, and so its nice when I can discover a new band from that era that I've never listened to before. This weekend I downloaded Birdbrain, which is thought by most fans to be the best of their six albums to date.

Buffalo Tom formed as a three piece in Boston during the mid 1980s, and were swept up in the post Nirvana music business buying spree. J. Mascis was involved in the recording and production of their first two albums, and also played guitar on one song on their 1988 self titled debut. Birdbrain came out in 1990, and is a classic blend of Meat Puppets and Dinosaur Jr style rock, well worth a listen for anyone into music from this era. The band are still around, touring, and preparing to release their seventh album some time next year.

You can get more info on the bands official site or on Wikipedia. Here's a few songs:

Buffalo Tom - Birdbrain
Buffalo Tom - Directive
Buffalo Tom - Skeleton Key

Nice post Jamie.
Bill Janovitz also wrote a really great essay on the Rolling Stones' Exile on main street in the 33 1/3 book series.

Cheers
