Peel Session: Magoo (2001)
Magoo are probably one of the Peel related bands to have played the most sessions with the least amount of commercial attention from record companies. From 1995 to 2004 they recorded nine sessions for the show. They formed in Norwich, in 1993, featuring Andrew Rayner (vocals, guitar), Jen Heagran (bass) Owen Turner (guitar), and Stacey Gow (drums), and are influenced by a mixture of American Indie rock (GBV, Pavement) and more English Peelish influences like The Wedding Present. They released three singles on their own Noisebox Records before signing to Chemikal Underground in 1997. Two albums followed: 'The Soateramic Sounds of Magoo' and 'Vote the Pacifist Ticket Today', before they were dropped and started to release albums through a selection of other smaller independents. These included 'Realist Week' from 2004 and last years 'The All Electric Amusement Arcade' which compiled some of the great music the band have released on singles in the last few years plus some new material.
This session, the bands seventh, was recorded on the 16th August 2001, and features an ace cover of the theme from Joe 90. Hoorah.

In other news, you might be interested to knooow that i've started to contribute to an American radio show (& podcast) named Blog Fresh Radio. The show is just getting started, but you can check out two starter episodes featuring yours truly over at the link above. The shows intention is to act as a summary of the blog-week for those who might have missed something; summing up what's been given the most blogtime and whats being blogged in different countries/cities. Go take a look! (Although please excuse my horrific gaff of mistakenly saying that Maximo Park are from Leeds).
